The 1k x 1k Art Gallery exhibits Australian & Japanese Artists & Designers that respond to the challenge of creating a single 1000 by 1000 pixel artwork that would best showcase their creative talent & attract Art Lovers & Collectors to their websites
The Artists originally create the 1k x 1k exhibits in many different mediums such as paint, sculpture, installation,
drawing & print etc. They then capture the images via a photograph or scan (or they may already be digital) & present them in a 1000 by 1000
pixel format (1k x 1k)
Each 1k x 1k artwork is exhibited without any editorial or
comment & instead encourages you to
start a dialog directly with the Artist & their art. It's our mission to
simply provide a creative challenge & an almost invisible framework in
which those connections can be achieved
Everywhere you see the 1k x 1k million pixel masterpieces exhibited (online, magazines, galleries, books etc) will contain a link
directing you to the Artist permanent online 1k x 1k exhibition space
eg. 1kx1k.com/artistsname. You will then find another link (usually bottom right) that takes
you directly to the Artists own website where you can learn more about them, view & maybe purchase their Art
1k x 1k not only connects Art lovers & Collectors to Australian & Japanese Artist & their works in a way that transcends language & cultural differences, but also in the belief that in this increasingly difficult modern economy, many emerging artists are unable support their passion in a
financially rewarding manner that they deserve. If you consider the prices that emerging artists
fetch for their art minus the cost of equipment, materials, labour, transportation,
storage, studio space & lastly the commissions that
galleries need to charge in order to cover the costs of displaying their art to the public, which results in a sizable chunk of the artists profits being lost. You soon realise that blood cannot be
squeezed from a stone & that there needs to be a better
solution to support & promote these emerging Artist
1k x 1k thinks small spaces with lots of direct connections is the key to a low cost effective solution. The unique 1k x 1k exhibition format is a way to provide an alternative to
bypass the above problems & although we exhibit 1k x 1k artworks in public
spaces, galleries, books, magazines & other media, the main focus is
on our online gallery. Our 1k x 1k
format means that Artists can transport their art for free by
email, have it stored for free, exhibited for free & have traffic
directed to their websites where they can build a following & sell
their works directly to collectors free from any commissions or fees & retain all of the profits from their dedication to creative pursuits
1k x 1k is funded through the sale of publications, promotional
materials & events as well as individuals or groups that wish to
sponsor this project. All profits are returned back to 1k x 1k to
further promote other emerging Australian & Japanese Artists. Profits help contribute towards the hosting of 1kx1k.com, printing, promotional
products, venue hire & staff etc
Interestingly you'll find 1kx1k.com a perfect fit with today's modern technology. Our online gallery features each 1k x 1k artwork with a 40 pixel border top & bottom, making it the exact height dimensions of today's High Definition screens (1080 pixels)
* 'k', is an abbreviation of kilo which means 1000, so the format of
each exhibit at 1k x 1k is exactly 1000 by 1000 pixels (1 Megapixel)
All you need to get your Free 1k x 1k Exhibition space is to be an Australian or Japanese Artist or Designer, submit your 1000 by 1000 pixel artwork & have your own website we can link to. Simple!
