1k x 1k connects people with art
We aim to connect Australian & Japanese Artist & their works in a way that transcends language & cultural differences. It's our mission to
simply provide a creative challenge & an almost invisible framework in
which those connections can be achieved
Artists originally create the 1k x 1k exhibits in many different mediums
Exhibitors use paint, sculpture, installation,
drawing & print etc. They then capture the images via a photograph, scan or they may already be digital works & present them in a 1000 by 1000
pixel format (1k x 1k)
The 1k x 1k theory
In this increasingly difficult modern economy, many emerging artists are unable support their passion in a
financially rewarding manner that they deserve. If you consider the prices that emerging artists
fetch for their art minus the cost of equipment, materials, labour, transportation,
storage, studio space & lastly the commissions that
galleries need to charge in order to cover the costs of displaying their art to the public, which results in a sizable chunk of the artists profits being lost. You soon realise that blood cannot be
squeezed from a stone & that there needs to be a better
solution to support & promote these emerging Artists
Small spaces with lots of direct connections is the key to a low cost effective solution. The unique 1k x 1k exhibition format is a way to provide an alternative to
bypass the above problems & although we exhibit 1k x 1k artworks in public
spaces, galleries, books, magazines & other media, the main focus is
on our online gallery
1kx1k.com is a perfect fit with today's modern technology
Our online gallery features each 1k x 1k artwork with a 40 pixel border top & bottom, making it the exact height dimensions of today's High Definition screens (1080 pixels)
Each 1k x 1k artwork is exhibited without editorial or
comment
Instead we encourage people to
start a dialog directly with the Artist & their art. Everywhere the 1k x 1k million pixel masterpieces are exhibited (online, magazines, galleries, books etc) contains a link
directing people to the Artist's permanent online 1k x 1k exhibition space
eg. 1kx1k.com/artistsname. Another link (usually bottom right) takes people & traffic directly to the Artists own website where they can build a following & sell their works directly to collectors free from any commissions or fees & retain all of the profits from their dedication to creative pursuits
1k x 1k supports Artist to support themselves
Artists can
email their 1k x 1k art, have it stored for free & exhibited for free. We exhibit, print, host & promote Artist's 1k x 1k without any cost or
commission. This is not a competition & there are no prizes or financial compensation of any kind. Each Artist that is selected receives only the opportunity to exhibit in the 1k x 1k exhibition & expose his/her creative works to a worldwide audience
Artists retain all copyrights to their work
Exhibitors are free to use their
image in any manner they wish & are able to reproduce, sell or license
their work to others, as long as it doesn't restrict us now or in the
future to continued usage. The reason we ask, is that 1k x 1k may
exhibit works in galleries & in print or installations that makes
it difficult or impossible to retract & as such Artists agree to give us an UNexclusive licence to reproduce their 1k x 1k in any format we see fit for perpetuity.
Artist's 1k x 1k WILL NOT be recklessly merchandised by us
We won't print 1k
x 1k works on tshirts, mugs etc. Reproductions are restricted to magazines, books, catalogs & posters etc that
directly relate to the promotion of exhibitors
1k x 1k is funded through the sale of publications, promotional
materials & events as well as individuals or groups that wish to
sponsor this project. Profits from the sale or exhibition of 1k x
1k promotional materials are put back into further promoting 1k x 1k
Artists & help contribute towards the hosting of 1kx1k.com, printing, promotional
products, venue hire & staff etc thus achieving our goal of keeping this service free to exhibitors |
